First of all, Tokyo surprised me because so many different worlds seemed to exist side by side. In particular, beauty, energy, tradition, spirituality and moments of complete calm could all be found within the same journey.

For example, I remember standing beneath the imposing Kaminarimon Gate at Sensoji Temple and feeling the history around me. However, beyond the intensity of the city, Japan revealed a completely different side.

In particular, the wild Sekkoku orchids along the Omotesando Trail up Mount Takao were unforgettable. As a result, the trees themselves almost appeared to be flowering as delicate blooms emerged among the cedars.

Finally, there was the tranquillity of Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. For example, sitting quietly beneath the spring blossom and watching the petals move in the breeze offered a remarkable contrast to the city beyond the gardens.
