A Memory Captured in Scent

First of all, Sydney is a city I’ve been lucky enough to spend time in over the years, and its harbour never loses its impact. In particular, there is something special about seeing the blue water, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge together beneath the Australian sun.

For example, one of my favourite memories is simply sitting in the Royal Botanic Garden and looking across the bay. In addition, giant bats hanging in the trees above added another wonderfully Australian detail to an otherwise peaceful afternoon in the sunshine.

However, Sydney can change character remarkably quickly. From the energy of Darling Harbour and the city’s cosmopolitan streets, you can then escape towards bush walks, eucalyptus, grassy woodland and the fresh air of the coast.

Further north, Australia gave me another unforgettable memory on Fraser Island. For example, after driving along the beach and camping beneath the stars, I woke to find a wild dingo licking between my toes — certainly one way to start the morning.
